What we check

Dial printing and indices

Under magnification, genuine dials show razor-sharp text, perfectly even minute tracks and cleanly applied indices. We look for blurred, thick or misaligned printing and lume plots that sit crooked or uneven.

Date and cyclops magnification

We check that the date is centred in its window in the correct font, and that a cyclops magnifies and fills the date as it should. Fakes often print the date too small, off-centre or under a weak lens.

Engravings and rehaut

We inspect caseback, lug and rehaut (inner bezel ring) engravings for depth and crispness, and verify the serial and reference format. Shallow, sandy or misaligned engraving is a common replica tell.

Movement and seconds hand

Where the movement is visible through a display back, we assess the rotor, finishing and decoration. On the dial side, a stuttering or ticking seconds hand on a watch that should sweep is an immediate red flag.

Bracelet, clasp and weight

We check clasp machining and engraving, end-link fit and overall heft. Genuine bracelets feel solid with tight tolerances; replicas often feel light and hollow with rattly, roughly finished clasps.

Signs of a replica

  • Ticking or stuttering seconds hand on a watch meant to sweep
  • Blurry, thick or misaligned dial printing and crooked lume plots
  • Date off-centre or a cyclops that barely magnifies
  • Shallow, sandy or misspelled engravings on caseback or rehaut
  • Light, hollow bracelet with a rattly, roughly finished clasp

Frequently asked

How long does a watch check take?

Most verdicts land in about 15 minutes; more detailed cases can take a few hours. An authentic result comes with a free QR digital certificate.

Can you authenticate from photos alone?

Often yes, but photo-based checks have limits. Deep movement inspection may need extra images through the display back or, ideally, of the opened caliber.

Which photos should I send?

Straight-on dial, the date and cyclops, caseback, rehaut, the clasp and any serial or reference engraving, all sharp and well lit.

Do you check mechanical and quartz watches?

Yes. We authenticate automatic, manual and quartz pieces, and flag when a movement type doesn't match what the model should have.
